More and more people are looking to protect themselves via video surveillance or alarms, and there are many solutions with or without a subscription. Here we are going to talk about the Ajax alarm kit which is a wireless solution, does not require a subscription, and can protect you from burglaries, fires, or even floods. This solution is simple to configure and use. Follow this article to find out how you can configure your Ajax alarm kit

What is the Ajax Alarm Kit?

Ajax alarm allows you to receive alarm notifications on your mobile phone. This set also includes a siren to deter burglars around your home. It serves as a silent and a loud alarm, you will receive a notification on your phone and the siren will sound.

Ajax uses its wireless signal, the Jeweler protocol with high-security AES encryption in the 868 MHz band. As a result, all products receive a Grade 2 certification and it’s much more reliable than Wi-Fi.

Thanks to the applied algorithm, it detects intentional tampering with the wireless signal and reduces maintenance costs. The included batteries last up to 7 years and the wireless signal is capable of covering distances of up to 2 km in open space. As an option, it is possible to extend the range with signal amplifiers such as AJAX Alarm UK Rex. Bridging distances is therefore no problem, not even for extremely large complexes.

How to Configure Ajax Alarm Kit

1) Control Panel of Ajax wireless alarm starter kit

Before getting to the heart of the matter, know that there are several product lines for this alarm system. You need to choose the system that suits your needs. In this article, we go with the Ajax Hub 2 Plus which will allow us to cover all the functionalities of the products in the Ajax wireless alarm starter kit. This version allows communication in Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or even 2G/3G/4G.

2) Features Ajax alarm starter kit

Ajax control panels are classified as grade 2 professional alarms and comply with the European security standard EN 50131. This means that the Ajax alarm kit is made to resist experienced thieves with specific equipment.

It protects doors, windows, and other possible entry points. But you can also add smoke detectors, carbon monoxide, or water leaks. This alarm is suitable for protecting any type of premises (apartment, house, office, store, etc.). And if you were planning to set up an Ajax at home, don’t worry about motion detectors, which won’t work for animals under 50 cm and 20 kg.

The features available depend on the options you choose, there are many accessories that will allow you to set up security inside your premises/home, but also outside. Some motion detectors, for example, are equipped with a camera, which will allow you to receive a real-time photo of what triggered your alarm.

Regarding video surveillance, it is possible to integrate video cameras from third-party brands into Ajax. And that is pretty cool!

Ajax devices communicate via the Jeweler radio protocol developed by Ajax Systems. This protocol guarantees two-way communication with an operational range of up to 2000m (in open fields) and offers high energy efficiency – the batteries of the detectors last up to 5 to 7 years!

The data transmitted by Jeweler is encrypted. And since we are here on a wireless solution, in the event of interference or jamming attempts, the system switches to a free radio frequency and warns users.

The system doesn’t care about power outages – the concentrator has a backup battery that works for 16 hours. Several communication channels are also available: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and dual 2G/3G/4G SIM card slots (channels vary depending on the hub version). They work in parallel and take over in case of emergency.

The Ajax Hubs do not stop at the alarm, since there are also products in their range that will allow you, for example, to control your electrical appliances or even the light. Thus, thanks to the scenarios, you will be able to turn on the light in the event of an intrusion or even automatically cut off the current in the event of a fire.

3) Setup Ajax wireless alarm kit

Please note that since we are talking about a security alarm here, it is advisable to have your Ajax alarm kit installed by a professional if you are not familiar with the subject. This is to avoid false positives or even in the event of an intrusion that is correctly detected.

We took a quick look at the features here, and that was just a simple summary. Ajax is full of surprises and that’s what we’ll see in the rest of this article.

The setup process is quick and simple. We will all be able to do it from the Ajax application available on iOS or Android.

Once your Ajax account has been created, you will be able to simply connect your Hub as well as all the accessories simply using the QRCode.

This application will allow you to control your alarm wherever you are in the world.

So, launch your Ajax application, then follow the guide. Installing an alarm has never been easier.

  1. To add your Ajax alarm station, select “Add a Hub” and then follow the guide.
  2. Adding the control unit is very simple, you can use your smartphone’s camera to scan the QRCode or directly enter the registration key which consists of 4 blocks of numbers.
  3. You can now start to configure your control panel and for example, add other connection methods such as Wi-Fi. This will make your internet connection more reliable and create a backup connection.
  4. Now that your hub is connected, you can start adding rooms. This functionality will then allow you to define where to place the accessories and detectors of the control unit.
  5. You will now be able to add your security devices to your hub and your Ajax application. To do this, simply scan the QRCode and follow the procedure indicated.
  6. You now have a first security device added. You can add more by simply selecting “Add another device.” Adding a new device is just as easy. Scan, then add.

You can now add other users, which will also allow them to use the application and perform operations according to the rights you are going to grant them.

4) Application Interface

The Ajax alarm kit application interface is very simple, that’s why we won’t spend much time on this part.

When you open your application, four categories are available:

  • Device: These are all the safety devices
  • Rooms: Here you can find all the rooms created
  • Notifications: Here are all the notifications, whether alarms or simple notifications
  • Remote: Here we have the virtual remote control, which you can use wherever you are in the world as long as you have internet.

5) Configuration

Now that we have all of our devices connected, we must configure them according to our needs. Again, this can be done from the Ajax smartphone app. We won’t detail the configuration here for all devices, it depends on your needs, your parts, and the conditions you want. Once again, do not hesitate to call a professional for the installation of your Ajax alarm kit.

For configuration, select the device you wish to configure, then press the cogwheel. As part of the hub, you will, for example, be able to configure users and their rights, Wi-Fi, Ethernet or cellular connectivity, or even scenarios.

For a scenario, the configuration will depend on it, but for example, with a motion detector or a door opening detector, you will be able to adjust the deactivation time at the entrance or at the exit (which leaves you the time to deactivate or activate the alarm), the sensitivity of the sensor, if you want it to be always activated, or even in the frame of the detector provided with a camera the resolution and the number of images desired.

6) Add Cameras

Another interesting thing, you will be able to add your own cameras directly to your Ajax application. And this is regardless of the brand from the moment they are ONVIF since you can connect via the RTSP protocol.

However, the addition of certain brands, such as Dahua CCTV or Hikvision CCTV will be simpler.
