In order to be able to set up an IP camera to Dahua DVR after purchase, the camera must be connected to its own network structure. As soon as the IP camera is connected to your network, you have full access to all setting options.
Via the user interface in the web browser or with the Dahua IP Camera Config Tool you can add an IP camera to Dahua DVR.
Connect the IP camera
Before adding IP cameras to Dahua DVR, you have to connect the IP surveillance camera to a power source using the power plug supplied. Once the power supply has been established, the IP camera will be noticeable through initial movements or an illuminated LED lamp.
Only then should you connect the surveillance camera to your network router. When setting up the network camera for the first time, you should use a LAN cable (Ethernet cable), as some network routers have problems with the initial installation via WLAN.
Plug one end of the LAN cable into the corresponding socket on the back of the IP camera and the other end into a free LAN socket on your network router. You can recognise a successfully established connection by the LEDs on the camera or the LEDs on the network router.
As soon as all settings have been made and you have determined the IP address of the surveillance camera, you can switch to WLAN operation.
Determine the IP address of the network camera
To be able to access the user interface of the IP camera, you need the IP address of the connected camera to add IP camera to Dahua DVR.
To determine this, first open the user interface of your network router. In order to do so, open a new browser window and enter the IP address of your router in the address line. You can find the IP address of your network router on the back of the device.
The user interface of the network router is normally password-protected. If you have not yet made any settings in the user interface, you can find the standard password in the instructions for use or on the back of the device. Enter the relevant data in the login mask and log in.
If you have successfully logged into the user interface of your network router, you should see a list of the connected network devices. If this list is not directly visible, you may have to look for “Network” or “Home Network Favourite” in the menu.
Take a look at the names and the respective connection type of the listed devices. If you find a device named “IP Camera” or “IP Cam” in the list, it is the connected network camera. If such designation is missing, retrospectively see which devices are connected by Cable.
If you have only connected the network camera to your router, identification should not be a problem. If you have connected several end devices via LAN cable, be certain to check which LAN socket (ex “LAN 1”) you have used for the individual devices.
As soon as you have the IP camera identified in the list, you should find an IP address in the line. This number code consists of 8-10 digits; for example may appear like so: “172.16.8…”. The complete sequence of digits is structured like this “XXX.XXX.X.XXX”. Copy the complete sequence of digits. Open another window in your web browser.
If you cannot find the IP address of the connected IP camera, you should insert the software included with the camera into your CD-ROM drive.
Open the user interface of the IP camera
- When the IP address of the network has found and copied the IP camera, paste it into the address line of the new browser window and then confirm with the Enter key.
- After you have called up the inserted IP address, open the user interface of the connected IP camera. Similar to calling up the user interface of the network router, you should see a login mask.
- In order to be able to call up the user interface of your Dahua IP camera more quickly in the future, you should save the address as a new favorite in your web browser.
- You can find the instructions for use of your Dahua IP camera, the standard password that you need to log in from.
- In some cases, the password can also be found on the bottom of the camera.
- As soon as you have logged in, you can make further configurations within the user interface.
- Be sure to change the password for the user interface of the IP camera to protect it from unauthorized access.

Possible Sources of Errors while adding an IP camera to a Dahua DVR
After I have connected the Dahua IP camera to the network router, no LED lights up on the camera or the network router
As soon as you have connected the IP camera and the network router using the network cable, an LED should normally light up on the camera and/or on the network router. If this is not the case, you should first check the power supply. Is the power cord properly connected to the camera? Is the power plug connected to an electrical outlet? Is the socket active (e.g. switch on an extension cord). Only then should you check the network cable used for functionality. Reconnect the IP camera or replace the cable.
After entering the IP address of the router, nothing happens!
To add IP camera to Dahua DVR, make sure that the Dahua DVR / PC / Laptop is really connected to the router. If necessary, check the LAN or WLAN connection and try again. If there is no improvement, you should use a different web browser.
After entering or pasting the IP address of the camera nothing happens!
If no user interface or login mask opens in the web browser after entering or pasting the camera IP address, please check the connection between the camera and the network router.
You should also check the power supply. To make sure that the problem is not with the web browser you are using, you should try an alternative browser.
